LATE-GOTHIC CHAMPLEV?ENAMEL GILT COPPER PROCESSIONAL CROSS.
Spanien. Presumably 14th century.

Copper gilt; partly chased and engraved. Applied medallions of enamel champlev? The ends in the shape of lilies. on the bars ornaments and tendrils; on the backside at
the ends the symbols of the evangelists. On the frontside at the ends Mary and John; as
well as a praying donor and a descending angel. On the crossbar a medallion with a thief;
the opposing medallion is lost. On the remaining medallions Helena finding the cross;
Christ symbol and a pelican. Corpus as a three-nailtype with wide loincloth and delicately
streaked hair and beard. Height 58cm. Condition B/C. Teile verloren.

Provenance:
Collection Franz Monheim; Aachen (1891-1969); via succession in family ownership until
today.
