From 1825; the royal porcelain manufactory predominantly made large vases with veduta
painting by order of Frederick William III and later Frederick William IV to be given as
royal presents. Since 1829; large footed bowls; such as this one; have also been included
in these commissions:
'In this extensive range; bowls up to 30 inches (78.6 cm) in diameter also play an
important role; including the models: 'extra large caneled bowl'; 'confect bowl on
dolphin'; 'bowl for turning on gold-plated leaf foot'; 'large crown-princely bowl on high
round foot' ...'. (Baer; 1983; p.14f.).
