SMALL VASE WITH WHITE HERONS.
Japan. Meiji period. In the style of Namikawa S魋uke.

Different style of enamel (musen shipp?and yusen shipp? on copper. Foot and lip bordered with blackend silver. The twelve herons are shown in white on the graded (bokashi) background in grey. The
colours are set side by side without metal borders; likewise the shady reed grasses
between the birds. The mastery of the gradients and the highly polished surface; which is
achived by firing the object at the end once more; show the mastery of the craftsmen.
Solely the beaks and eyes of the birds are defined by wafer-thin silver bridges. These
were also used for the stylized Kanzenami waves on the foot. H. 16;5cm. Underneath engraved mark: Prob. suzuki Seiichiro; active ca. 1860. Condition B. Hairline crack.
