LARGE FLOWER-SHAPED PLATE WITH EIGHT MEDALLIONS.
Origin: China.
Dynasty: Mid Qing dynasty.
Date: 18th/19th c.
Technique: Silver partly gilt; finely engraved and punched.
Description: In eight round medallions on a finely punched ground and in flat and high relief various
landscapes with people and animals in lush vegetation. Between the medallions engraved
eight smaller cartouches with plants and flowers.
Measurement: 2160g; ? 46cm; h.3.5cm.
Seal: Dutch import mark (1814-1893); used for large objects consisting of at least 833 silver.
Condition A/B.
The extremely detailed and fine decoration with partial gilding is typical of silver from the middle of the Qing Dynasty. The plate was left unmarked; which is not unusual for Chinese silver from this period. Only on later export silver more often a Chinese manufacturer mark can be found.
