SORROWED LADY Depiction of the "Piet? which on April 24; 1583 (when still embellishing a small chapel near Rho) miraculously cried tears of blood; at the conclusion of the necessary investigations; the archbishop of Milan; the future San Carlo Borromeo; ordered the architect Pellegrino Tibaldi to design a sanctuary for the Marian cult in the same place; to worthily welcome the painting and commemorate its miracle. The foundation stone was laid on March 6; 1584; the construction continued in the following centuries; to be consecrated as a church on April 4; 1755 and finally taking on the appearance completed in 1888 when the last set of bells was mounted on the bell tower; designed by Carlo Giuseppe Merlo and Giulio Galliori; built in 1759 and 75 meters high.
