Occupied by the Japanese; after 1937 Chusan Road became part of the Shanghai Ghetto; formally known as the Restricted Sector for Stateless Refugees; an area of approximately one square mile in the Hongkou district of Japanese-occupied Shanghai (the southern Hongkou and southwestern Yangpu districts of modern Shanghai).
