Uckermark; city of Templin; Alt Placht; Little church in the green (German: Kirchlein im Gr黱en): view from outside with church entrance; the manor chapel was built around 1700 by Huguenots; religious refugees; for the Lutheran Protestant manor owner of Alt Placht Manor. It was built on the ruins of a medieval catholic church; built most probably after 1307; the first mentioning of Placht. Even earlier; around 1000 AD; here was a Slavic pagan cult place. The church was built in truss (half-timbering) style and fell into ruins; after 1945; during times of German Democratic Republic. It is sourrounded by old linden trees; planted around 1500 AD. In 1990; a club was found to restore the church. The club was let by pastor and Lutheran theologist Horst Kasner (1926 - 2011); from 1997 to 2011. Horst Kasner was the father of German Chancellor (Madame Chancellor) Angela Merkel (born 1954). Restauration of the chapel took place from 1993 to 1997. First religious service took place here again; in 1994. The original church bell was reinstalled; in 1995. The new organ was added; in 2004.
