The Chapel of Saint Venantius ( S.Venanzio; Saint Venance) was added by Pope John IV (r. 640-42) in 640. Its apse is decorated with mosaics (642-49) commissioned by his successor; Pope Theodore I (r. 642-49). In the Lateran Baptistery (Baptist鑢e du Latran; Baptisterium des Lateran; Battistero di san Giovanni in Fonte al Laterano). This baptistery was founded by Pope Sixtus III in 440; perhaps on an earlier structure and stands somewhat apart from the Archbasilica of Saint John Lateran.
