Ceremony celebrated by pope Benedict XVI (Benoit XVI) in Saint Peter Basilica at the Vatican on october 11; 2009.- The Baldachin (baldaquin) by Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598-1680)Bernini's first work at St. Peter's was to design the baldacchino; a pavilion-like structure 28.74 metres tall and claimed to be the largest piece of bronze in the world; which stands beneath the dome and above the altar.- below: The Confessionby Maderno;1615-17A double ramp of stairs descends into an exedra closed by a beautiful balustrade and with multi-colored marble walls and floor. The Confession opens under the center of the dome.
