Juan Gottuzzo; Centennial Celebration; Argentina; 1910; bronze; This medal commemorates the centennial of the May Revolution and Argentina's independence from Spain in 1810. The anniversary celebrations held all over the country maintained a message of progress and prosperity; particularly Argentina's agricultural wealth; which earned the country the nickname of the 'world's barn.' The centennial celebration led to medals; paintings; and other souvenirs as keepsakes for purchase or gifts to dignitaries. The obverse of this medal depicts the founding members of Argentina's first independent government; the First Assembly or Primera Junta; while the reverse portrays allegorical personifications of various Argentinian industries.
