Stettin. The actual church was built in Gothic style from 1370 to 1387 and onwards. The work was completed; in 1503. It is a fine example of Northern German and Northern European brick Gothic heritage. In 1456; the Southern tower was destroyed by a storm. In 1534; the church became a Lutheran protestant church. In 1677; the siege of Szczecin (Stettin) in the war between Brandenburg and Sweden caused heavy damages; by artillery and fire. In 1690; restauration started without building a new tower helmet. In 19th century; further restauration happened; followed by the collapse of the newly built tower helmet; in 1894. A new helmet was immediately built and reached a height of 119 m. On 17th of August; 1944; the church was heavily damaged by allied bombs. In 1947; further parts of the church collapsed. Restauration started in 1972 under guidance of architects Stanislaw Latour and Miroslaw Hamberg. Since 1945; the church was Roman Catholic again. In 1972; it became the main cathedral as Archcathedral of the Archdiocese of Szczecin. In 2009; the church tower got a new helmet and reaches now 110;18 m. There is as well a panorama platform.
