Close-up of an indeterminate Pycnodont fossil from Provence, France. This large grinder-toothed fish dates from the Valanginian (139.8 to 132.9 million years ago) age of the Lower Cretaceous. Pycnodonts were small to medium-sized, deep-bodied bony fish with round, flattened teeth. This specimen measures70cm in length. Luc Ebbo, Paleogalerie, Salignac.
