Restoration Of The Interior Of The Guildhall -- Mr. A. Bienkowski, the famous Polish sculptor at work on the Nelson memorial. The beautiful figure of Britannia on this memorial is being renovated and parts of the damaged stone work is being replaced. On December 29th. 1940, when the Guildhall-was bombed, much of the stonework in the Great Hall and many of the statues and memorials were damaged. Famous sculptors, are at present replacing the stone-work to the figure and much of the famous oak is being replaced by stone. Although this restoration work is only in the preliminary stages at present, everyone concerned is working hard to have this completed in time for the Coronation. March 16, 1953.
