The intrusion of "Bulbous Betty" into the peace and quiet of the lily pond in the beautiful Terrace Gardens at Richmond. Surrey, is causing a storm. Betty is a 7ft. high statue of a girl with everything but clothes. The startled mayor, Councilor G. Hamilton Penney, said yesterday: "We have never had such a fuss in the district. People have been writing letters to me about it. "Local people have called the statue "Bulbous Betty." She was created by sculptor Mr. Allen Howes, of St. Peter's-square, Hammersmith. He calls her Aphrodite. He wrote to the council offering the statue to the district because his wife was born there. July 7, 1952.
