Restoration Of The Interior Of The Guildhall -- Mr. Charles Druce of West Norwood has the task of giving a new arm to the statue of William Beckford, twice Lord Major of London 1762-3 and 1769-1770. On December 29th, 1940, when the Guildhall was bombed, much of the stonework in the Great Hall and mars of the statues and memorials were damaged. Famous sculptors at present replacing the stonework to the figures and of the famous oak is also being replaced by stone. Although this restoration work is only in the preliminary stages, everyone concerned is working hard to complete this task in time for the Coronation. March 16, 1953. (Photo by Fox Photos).
