Record ***** This Year? -- A silo full of beet ready for proceessing at the Felstead factory. There are indications that his year's sugar beet crop, grown in 50 counties by 45,000 growers, may equal or surpass the 1946 record. Test weighings by experts taking samples in different parts of the country show that the total tonnage is high, reaching some 4,000,000, tons and the sugar content will be a useful proportion of the sugar ration. These pictures were taken at the Felstead (Essex) factory of the British Sugar Corporation, where it is estimated that the beet dealt with this autumn alone will be sufficient for the present ration for 1,500,000 people.
