Lone Woman Flier Starts Atlantic Flight Adverse Weather Reports -- Mrs. Beryl Markham taking off from Abingdon this evening in her Monoplane "The Messenger" on her Atlantic flight. Despite adverse weather reports, Mrs. Beryl Marham hopped off from the Royal air force Aerodeome at Abingdon this evening Sept 4 on her solo flight across the Atlantic to New York. With frank disregard for danger, the lone flier made a perfect take off in her low - wing Monoplane "The Messenger" which is unequipped with wireless Jim Mollison among other friends were on the field to wish her good luck in her attempt to be the first woman to make the east to west solo passage.
