Aloft On Stratosphere Flight -- The wind had died to absolute calm as the balloon of Prof. and Mrs. Jean Piccard was cast off on its flight into the upper air Oct 23. The picture shows the big bag, which had a capacity of 600,000 cubic feet of hydrogen gas, as it left the ground at the ford Airport, near Detroit.
