Dr. William George Penney - Scientific Chief of Britain's First Atom-Weapons Test: Doctor W. G. Penney, 43-years-old chief of the Ministry of Supply's Armament Research Department, who has been named as the scientific chief of Britain's first atomic test which is to take place on the Monte Bello Island, an uninhabited group 50 miles off the north-west coast of Australia, last this year. The site is being set up as a permanent atomic-testing station for the Commonwealth. Doctor Penney lives at Idminston-road, West Norwood, London, and is pictured here at the Supply Ministry.
