U.S. President Makes Campaign Speech. U.S, President Franklin D. Roosevelt broadcasts his second political speech of the campaign on Oct. 5,1944. as the Democratic Party's candidate for reelection. While both major parties are in basic agreement on total defeat of the enemy, a world security organization and post-war domestic social security, the Republican Party candidate, Governor Thomas E. Dewey of the eastern state of New York, has criticized many of President Roosevelt's domestic policies.
