Tony Mottram playing in the Davis Cup match at Eastbourne in 1950. Anthony John Mottram was born in 1920. When he was only 19 he played for his County, Warwickshire. In 1940 he joined the Royal Air Force, attained the rank of Squadron Leader and by 1946, when he was disembodied, he had won the D.F.C. When he had finished his service career Mottram started to play tennis in earnest again. In 1947 he was the Captain of the British team that toured the West Indies and in 1948 when the team toured South Africa. August 26, 1954.
