When this picture was taken Monty got an idea, and the idea shattered his no-autograph order. Happy after meeting ex-Ninth Division men in Greenslopes Repatriation Hospital he joined a band of nurses for an informal photograph. Then he called a Courier-Mail photographer, and asked him to take a picture of all nurses with him. "Please have the photographs at Government House for me to-night to autograph," he said. "A copy for each nurse, and I'll foot the *****." The promise was given, and as fast as the ***** spread the group snowballed with nurses ***** from everywhere. Last night the hospital matron (Matron Monckton) took 140 pictures to Government House to get a famous hand write "Montgomery of Alamein" on them. They were the only autographs he left in Queensland. July 21, 1947.
