General Montgomery deals with his correspondence in his train office. One of the problems which faced General Sir Bernard Montgomery, K.C.B., D.S.O., when he took up his new appointment was to visit each Unit under his command, scattered throughout Britain, and at the same time to keep in touch with the War Ministers and his G.H.Q. in London. To overcome this difficulty a special train was provided for him to tour the country, with cars carried in vans so that he could visit troops in any given area. April 04, 1944.
