Italian Peasants Move In On Estate - Flaunting their flags and scarves, a force of peasants converges on sartori's estate. Using tactics akin to those employed by the "Squatters" who took over vacant blocks of apartments in London after 1945, land-hungry Italian peasants are moving in on estates in many parts of their nation. Spurred by communist agitation, these peasant groups carry red flags, and when they can't get these, red scarves. On December 6 a party of peasants invaded the estate of Giulio Sartori at Tor Lupara, ten miles outside Rome. Police talked them into leaving after the arrest of their leader, local communist mazzilio giacomini. December 08, 1949. (Photo by Associated Press Photo).
