Strip of bobbin lace with broad calyx and stylized double-headed eagle; Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace: Eastern European lace (ribbon lace). The pattern consists of two more or less symmetrical compositions in which the contours of the motifs are made with winding clotted ribbons; which vary in minimal width. One composition consists of a large and broad calyx; with a short stem and simple volute leaves loose underneath. The other composition consists of a hanging flower with a much smaller and simply designed flower cup; and lobed leaves like the wings of a bird; so it may not be a flower but a stylized double-headed eagle. The motifs are connected by a lattice ground; a round Valenciennes ground. The ribbons are made in linen with thicker and shiny contour threads on both sides of the ribbon. Decorative grounds have been applied within the contours of ribbons; including a net impact filling and a Mechelen ground decorated with mousse made in mold. The upper side is finished with a woven linen strap.; anonymous; Oost-Europa; c. 1885 - c. 1899; linen (material); East European lace; l 118 cm x w 17 cm x; 37.5 cm
