Dish with the Calumny of Apelles and the arms of the Ridolfi family Dish with an allegory of the Slander and the arms of the Florentine family Ridolfi; Round dish of multi-colored painted majolica; painted with an allegory of the Slander to Apelles. A naked; handcuffed man is lying on his knees in front of a judge's seat. The naked young man depicts the Innocence; which is being dragged in court. The judge has donkey ears; a sign of stupidity. The Ignorance; which stands next to the throne; obscures him through the white cloth. The woman with the torch; behind the young man; introduces the Slander: she slanders the innocent young man. The Naked Truth is at the end; but nobody listens to her words. The border around the show consists of grotesques: a succession of curls; fish; monster heads and masks; between which cartouches with inscriptions. In the center is the arms of the Florentine Ridolfi; Calumny or Apelles family: bad judge with ass's ears on throne; with Deceit; Envy; Ignorance; Suspicion and Treachery; confronted with innocent accused; Remorse and Truth present; Nicol?da Urbino (attributed to); Urbino; c. 1520 - c. 1525; earthenware; tin glaze; lead glaze; h 6.6 cm x d 53.4 cm
