HISTORY OF PHOTOGRAPHY The French occupation authorities in Germany demand an identity document from each inhabitant. In order to speed up operations; the BASF photo shoot (Badische Anilin und Soda Fabrik) devises the system seen in the photograph: it has the numbered frames hoisted on thirty steps behind which the people to be photographed are placed. The "group" photographs thus obtained will later be enlarged and cut to obtain 4x4 cm portraits. With this system; 10;500 people were photographed in two days. Germany; 1919
