HISTORY OF PHOTOGRAPHY "The first General Assembly of the Free Church of Scotland"; which signs the deed of separation and the decree of dismissal from the Presbyterian Church. Detail from the painting by David Octavius Hill (1802 - 17 May 1870) where the painter took a self-portrait with a sketch pad and a pencil in his hand; and his partner Robert Adamson (1821-1848) with a camera also appears. Painted on the basis of the calotypical portraits made by Adamson and Hill for each of the 457 characters; the work was finished 23 years after the schism; implemented in Edinburgh in May 1843.
