Woman makes a sand painting; A seated woman (actor Segawa Kikunoj?V (1802-32) in an unknown woman role); makes a sand painting on a sheet of lacquerware. Next to the painting are two spoons; a wooden spatula and a paint box on the far left. The painting represents Mount Fuji; seen from the beach of Matsu no Shimabara. The cloud next to Fuji; in the form of a dragon; refers to the new year of the dragon. Making sand paintings was a popular pastime for women from the 1920s onwards; perhaps earlier.
