NETSUKE: YAMAMBA WITH THE BOY KINTAR?

Japan. 18th c. Ivory; carved and engraved; back with golden yellow patina. The mountain hag supports herself on a long branch and climbs a mountain with the Kintar?boy on her back. With her left hand she holds the wild boy who challenges her laughter with his madness. Her long-sleeved robe is girded with leaves and gapes wide open over her chest. Height 6.7cm. Sign.: Okakoto.
