According to letters from the consigner to Dr. Gabriel P. Weisberg of the University of
Minnesota from autumn 2001; Ribot produced two pieces based on this theme. The first version was exhibted at the Paris salon in 1878 and is now kept in the Burrel Collection in Glasgow.

In a catalogue of the Bernheim Jeune Gallery; which organised an exhibition of Ribots works in 1890; a further painting titled "La Compabilit? and owned by a certain Mme.
Martin is mentioned; which is probably identical to this work.
