Dr. Wagner Wilke writes:
"... The painting has been unequivocally identified as a work of Ludwig von Hofmann. The piece was presumably created in the second half of the 1890s; most probably around 1895-1900 during von Hofmann's visit to Rome... Two studies of the seated nude girl are known; and are both kept in the St鋎tisches Galerie Albstadt (Inv. SWG 89/249-250; right) and are dated 1889 according to the collection catalogue (Ludwig von Hofmann. Zeichnungen;Art trade; Van Ham.
