Following the announcement of the engagement of the Prussian Crown Prince Wilhelm to the Duchess Cecilie of Mecklenburg-Schwerin in 1904; Adolf Amberg was given an important commission by the deutschen St鋎te: To create the famous "Hochzeitszug" (wedding parade) group; which was originally planned in silver and meant to be given to the couple-to-be as a present. However; the creation of the table centrepiece only began in 1909/1910 after the Royal Berlin Factory had purchased Amberg's designs. The set comprised of twenty figures; two candelabra; two fruit bowls and a large jardiniere. Although the design was originally intended for Empress Auguste; and was probably turned down for being too risqu? the naturalistically crafted dancing figures soon became exceedingly popular.Art trade; Van Ham.
