The most recent exhibition in the Mus閑 Daubigny sets the painting into the context of the year 1858 when Daubigny received a first class medal for four of his works. Parallels to his spectacular piece "Bords de l'Oise" liveliness is particularly evident in the present work; the laundresses by the riverside and ducks passing enliven the scenery.
