This historic scene depicts one of the most significant weddings of the 15th century. On August 19; 1477 Archduke Maximilian of Austria and Mary of Burgundy were married in Ghent. As a consequence Maximilian was able to unite (after the death of his father) the legacy of Charles the Bold with the House of Habsburg and became one of the most powerful princes in Europe and the House of Habsburg rose to world power. The scene can be identified by the coats of arms in the painting. The coat of arms of Charles the Bold as well as the Habsburg Eagle can be found on Wikipedia. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wappentafel_Karl_der_Kuehne.jpg
