Shortly after his education the French painter Lois Caravague left for Russia. There he portayed several members of the czar's family. Among others Ivan Yakovlevich Vishnyakov (1699-1761) was his studen. Like his masterhe produced portraits of the Russian aristocracy. Execution and composition of Vishnykov's few known paintings recall the here depicted boy.Art trade; Van Ham.
