China. Tang dynasty; early 8th century.
The 'Fat Lady' is standing in an elegant; slightly moving pose; the right foot with 'cloud-shoe' advanced coquettischly under the wide; wrinkled robe; tucked her hands into the long sleeves. Her face with the tall hair of type 'drop of the horse hairstyle'; the very finely drawn eyebrows in beetle form and the careful 'make-up' emulate the ideal of beauty Yang Guifei; the beloved concubine of Emperor Xuanzong (712- 756) and famous as one of the 'Four beauties of Ancient China'. A figure type of the reign of that emperor. Height 61;5cm. Condition A/B. Common restorations.
The dating of this lot is consistent with the results of Oxford Authentication Ltd. thermoluminisenz test no. C112e15.
