NETSUKE: SITTING SHOJO; FRUITWOOD
18th Century.

Shojo asleep as usual; his head resting on his right hand. He wears a rich robe with very delicately engraved and darkly accentuated brocade patterns. Signed on the rectangular reserve: Masamaru; cf. MCI; p. 431; apparently the artist was specialised in the depiction of Shojo. Also Brockhaus owned a Shojo-Netsuke by this carver and LA shows a very similar model on p. 713. H. 3;1 cm.
