NETSUKE: KARAKO; CHERRY
2nd half of the 19th Century.
Karako in wide-sleeve; belted robe sitting with the legs tucked under. Behind his back he hides the oni mask; therefore he is tentatively making the bekkanko gestus with his left hand. Delicately carved; engraved and polished; the eyes made of inserted glass; a movable red tongue; a himotoshi in green coloured horn. Signed: Miwa & Kakihan; cp. MCI; p. 557 - 571. W. 3;9 cm. Condition B. One cornet of the mask is damaged and one toe is restored.
