NETSUKE: OKAME; IVORY
Ca. 1900.

The Goddess wears a multilayer robe of a court lady; the long hair tied up; the eyebrows (in dabs) high on the forehead. She is sitting on a so-called zabuton pillow next to a basket lantern. In front of her there is a suzuribako; in which she prepared the Chinese ink for her brush; with which she is just about to finish a short letter with the phrase 'ippitsu'. A curious Oni is peeping over her shoulder. Very delicately carved and engraved; accentuated with dark details. Signed on the oval reserve: Shuzan; according to LA; p. 1019; Meiji artist. H. 3;2 cm. Condition A.
