NETSUKE: SITTING TIGER; BOXWOOD
Mid 19th Century.

The sitting animal is turning around; its tail raised over the back; the mouth opened aggressively. Delicately carved and engraved; slightly coloured; black accentuated pupils; red mouth. Signed: Minko & Kakihan; renowned for his vibrant animal depictions; particularly tigers with strong paws as in this model. Cp. MCI; p. 504 et seqq. W. 4;4 cm. Condition A.Art trade; Van Ham.
