LACQUER PANEL: MONKEY WITH INRO
2nd half of the 19th Century.

A monkey wearing an elegant jacket on a roiro ground with coloured takamakie with gold; silver and additional turquoise. The sitting monkey is intently watching the rat netsuke of ivory; which his hanging on an Inro; through glasses; the Inro shows a hilly landscape at a beach in delicate togidashi. Ojime of red jasper; the animal's eyes painted glass. Wide; continuous border decorated with twigs of flowering chrysanthemums painted in colours with nashiji on the umber-coloured ground. Signed in the gold lacquer: Ishibashi Kuga & red lacquer seal: Jo. According to Takao this is a work of Ishibashi Heij鹲ai II. born 1835; son of Ishibashi Heijusai. The edge is covered marbled Roiro; verso there are also defects. 30 x 45;5 x 3 cm. Condition A/B. Please note that objects made of ivory; rhinoceros horn and turtle shell; due to Cites regulations can only be sold within the European Community. At present the export in third countries is prohibited.
