CHAWAN WITH HAKEME
Japan. Edo period. 17th Century. Hagi.
Rough; sandy body with white engobe and opaque; light-grey glaze. Footring with three cuts (wari-kodai) with remains of fire sand; on the inside three unglazed fire support scars. The engobe has been applied by a brush of straw (hakeme). Craquelure is coloured by tea. Height 8 cm; + 13;8 cm. Inscribed in lacquer on the tomobako: ko-hagi chawan. Condition A/B. Enclosed: Shifuki brocade bag with cushion and modern kiri-tomobako wood case.Art trade; Van Ham.
