MATCHING PAIR OF HIBACHI IN THE SHAPE OF A PERCHING HARE
Japan. Presumably Mino; beginning of the 20th Century.
Heavy; beige body with shiny; heavliy crazed Shino glaze. Turned and reworked manually. The eyes and ears are accentuated in iron-red under the glaze. The iron-red body shimmers through in thinly glazed spots. On the bottom the glaze has been applied with a brush so that the seals are illegible. Height 15;5 cm. Width 22 cm. On the lid the tomobako: Hibachi; additionally Yokokawa; Kyuzaemon & seal. Condition A/B. Enclosed: bag and tomobako wood case.Art trade; Van Ham.
