THANGKA. THE LIFE OF BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI (SANGYI SAKYA THUBPA).

Colors and gold on fabric. Also known under theme 'The Twelve Great Deeds Of Buddha' (Dzad pa chu nyi). On top the palace with the dreaming queen Maya; mother of Buddha; to the left the white elephant she is dreaming about. To the right she is leaning against a tree; giving birth to the Buddha; who is floating down out of her side on a series of tiny lotus blossoms. The other episodes are arranged around the Buddha in the centre in lotus position with charity bowl and his two disciples Shariputra and Maudgalyayan. 75 x 53.5cm. Condition A/B. Supplement: framed with broad gold frame behind glass.
