Shijo School. Two-folding screen (by鬮u) with a pair of paintings of birds and flowers.
Meiji period. Ca. 1890. Colors and Chinese ink in fine washes on silk; mounted on a gilded folding screen. Folding screen height 176cm; width 176cm; painting size each: height 140cm; width 60;5cm. The painting on the left with bamboo in morning fog; a rooster looking down from a water pipe on a hen who is pecking on dandelions. On the right a rose-coloured blooming hollyhock (aoi) with maple tree with a twittering wagtail.
Suzuki grass suggests the beginning of autumn. Sign.: Gyokush? Seal presumably: Rokuj鹲hi sh?okina. Condition B. Torn in the gold.Art trade; Van Ham.
