THANGKA. LOKESHVARA PADMAPANI.
Tibet. 19th/20th century.
Colors on fabric; mounting with Chinese silk. Padmapani standing in samapada is wearing above his crown the face of Amithaba above the crown; the ruler of the Western paradise; of which he is the representation. To his right is the blue Vajrapani and to the left the yellow Manjushri Lokeshvara with the hands in darmachakrapavartana mudra. The mounting consists of a blue silk with woven golden dragon; which stems from an older Chinese robe. Over the painting a piece of a yellow Chinese dragon silk is set in as a heaven window. 106 x 67cm; size: 66.5 x 45cm. Condition B. Slightly worn. Supplement: Framed behind glass. Two appropriate finials of pierced; filigree bronze.
