BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI. BRONZE.
Burma/Myanmar. After 1860.
Bronze with gilding. Buddha in mandalay style; which has its origin when the Burma royal court was relocated to Mandalay in 1861. The rounded ushnisha on top of his head without an applied peak; the accurate design of the elegantely folded sangathi robe and the smooth base are characteristic for this style. He holds his right hand in bhumisparsa mudra; which is the gesture of touching the earth. The well preserved gilding makes assume that the figure was kept safe in a temple for a long time. Height 57cm. Condition B. Abrasions on the base.
