Japan. Meiji to Taish?period. 19th/20th century.

Painted porcelain; with moriage and gold. A medaillon depicting a sparrow in bamboo and roses on a background painting depicting a samurai in rage; who is held back by three others. A captain on horseback with three foot soldiers with arquebus waiting. Partly the painting is only made in shades of grey and therefore appears like Chinese ink. Shoulder and neck of the vase decorated with brocade patterns and flowers. Height 56cm; ?27cm. On the base in iron red: Kutani Wataya ga (merchant Wataya Heibei). Condition A/B.Art trade; Van Ham.
