On canvas and stretcher handwritten number "48"; again signed twice "Carl /
Marr / M黱chen" as well as label: "No. 48 / Der Maler (gross)".

In 1907/08 Marr and Messerschmitt painted the dome of the extended church St. Michael in Burgsinn together. The large ceiling fresco depicts the so-called War in Heaven in vibrant colours. In this context the present portrait of the artist friend might have emerged.
